1. Is it hard to use a jackhammer ?

No ! On the contrary it is quite simple. In order to use a jackhammer, first the appropriate safety equipment must be warn, including safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots, eat protection and a dust mask. Secondly make sure an appropriate high voltage extension lead is attached with no abrasions in the wiring. Finally the machine can be started, using the on/off switch and handle trigger to begin vibration; a firm footing must be maintained in order to keep balance and protect yourself. 

2. How much does it cost to rent a jackhammer ?

The prices to hire/ rent a medium jackhammer over a 24 hour period ranges between $70- $100, with the price fluctuating depending on the hire services, delivery costs, extra attachments (e.g. tile removing tools) and the length of the rental period (e.g. $220- $370 weekly pricing). 

3. What size jackhammer do I need ?

The size of the jackhammer is dependent on the size and difficulty of the job. Below is a quick guide: 

Small jackhammer:

 

  • Removal of wall tiles
  • Removal of stucco and render 
  • Small scale demolition of on walls & brickwork. 

 

Medium Jackhammer: 

 

  • Small scale demo of brick work & 
  • Demo of concrete slabs up to 100mm
  • Digging through hard clay (requires extra spade bit attachment) 
  • Removing tiles & lino panels, including floor coverings (requires tile removing attachment) 
  • Over larger areas a “Trolley mounted Jackhammer” is recommended. 

 

Large Jackhammers: 

 

  • Breaking apart of large concrete slabs, footings & paths.
  • Removal of large tiles & bonded paving.
  • Cutting apart bitumen/ asphalt 
  • Prep work for foundations i.e rock & clay removal 

 

4. How much does it cost to have concrete professionally removed ? 

Depending on the size and structure of the concrete, prices can range from $500-$800 for unreinforced patio footings, all the way to $10,000-$100,000 depending on the reinforcement amount and job size.
